Do you have pain that keeps coming back?
Our Milsons Point physiotherapists use a whole body approach to look beyond your symptoms to find the root cause.
What Does a “whole-body approach” Mean?
Your body isn’t a collection of separate parts — it’s one connected system. A problem in your foot can show up as pain in your back. Tension in your jaw can throw off your posture and your hips. Nothing works in isolation, so nothing should be treated in isolation.
So instead of just treating where it hurts, we look at your whole body to find out why it hurts — and fix the real cause, not just the symptom.
Biomechanics is the study of how movement in one part of the body affects another — how alignment influences function, comfort, and pain.
Tensegrity offers a helpful way to picture it: think of your bones as rigid rods and your muscles as elastic bands holding everything in tension. Move one part of that structure, and the whole thing shifts in response. Your body works the same way.
Have you dealt with injury after injury, only to find that fixing one thing seems to create a problem somewhere else? Have you seen practitioner after practitioner without lasting relief?
You may need a genuinely holistic approach — one that treats the whole body, and the whole person. That’s what we offer at Physio Body and Sole in Milsons Point, North Sydney.
Why This Matters
Treating isolated areas can bring short-term relief, but it rarely lasts — a new issue tends to surface once the old one settles. If you’ve been through that cycle before, it may be time for a proper whole-body assessment from someone trained to look at the full picture, not just the painful part.

How Do You Realign Your Thoracic Rings?
Realigning your thoracic rings starts with learning to feel subtle changes in your body — changes you may not even know are possible at first. A physiotherapist trained in this method will guide you to sense the difference when your rings are in better alignment. Most people begin to feel this within 1–2 sessions.
You’ll be given simple cues like:
-
“Lengthen your spine”
-
“Connect the points I’m touching”
-
“Breathe here”
These targeted instructions help you engage the right muscles and create better alignment through awareness, not force.
Then, we retest your “meaningful task” — a movement or activity that normally causes pain. If it’s suddenly easier or less painful, it confirms a successful correction.
Case Study: Neck and Shoulder Pain from Desk Work
A client came in with a stiff, painful neck and shoulder from long hours at the computer.
On assessment:
-
Her right shoulder was rotated forward
-
Ribs 3, 4, and 5 on the right side were visibly more prominent and compressed
Treatment involved:
-
Releasing tight muscles that were pulling the ribs out of alignment
-
Teaching her how to activate the right muscles to hold the ribs in place
-
Practicing the corrective cues to keep that alignment during movement
After just one session, she could move her neck and shoulder much more freely — with less effort and no pain.
Could Thoracic Ring Imbalance Be the Missing Piece?
Many people with ongoing foot, knee, shoulder or back pain — even headaches — have an underlying thoracic ring imbalance. Often, they’ve tried regular treatments with little success.
At Physio Therapy Yoga, we specialise in assessing and correcting thoracic ring function through a combination of physiotherapy, movement retraining, and mindful awareness.

“The thorax plays a role in optimal function of the whole of the body and optimal health of the whole person.” LJ Lee, Canada
Thoracic Ring research shows the thorax may be the underlying cause of problems elsewhere in the body.
You may not feel any thoracic pain, but there could be impairments in the thorax that cause dysfunction or pain in other parts of the body.
A-J has completed the full training in assessing and treating thoracic rings. Years of experience help her find unique ways to suit your body to correct your thoracic alignment.
At Physio Therapy Yoga, in Milsons Point, we assess your whole body to find the underlying cause of your pain. We treat both the symptoms and the cause.
The Thorax or Rib Cage has 3 Major Functions:
Treatment involves identifying which rings are dysfunctional and teaching you how to realign them and restore normal function.
The thoracic rings are realigned gently by the therapist’s hands, sometimes dry needling or laser are used to relax the muscles, and you are taught cues to guide you how to correct them yourself. Ultimately you will feel good in your body when they are realigned.
Sometimes another part of your body is causing the thoracic rings to be out of alignment. A-J as an experinced Physio in this method can determine which is the “driver”(cause.
Here at Physio Therapy Yoga in Milsons Point, North Sydney we treat thoracic rings and provide ongoing support to teach you how to maintain good alignment. We give you tips for managing your postural corrections.
Our body moves according to Tensegrity, a “self-tensioning structure composed of rigid structures and cables, with forces of traction and compression, which form an integrated whole. The bones are rigid structures and everything else is cables linking every system in the body.
