How We Work

Untangling the Real Cause of Your Pain

Pain is rarely just one thing. At Physio Body and Sole we look at your whole body – old injuries, movement patterns, and habits – to find the tangle underneath your pain, then work through it, step by step…

Pain rarely starts and ends in one place.

When one area is injured, tight, or overloaded, your body adapts around it to keep you moving. Over time, those compensations (or ‘tangles’) can create new pain, new tension, and movement patterns that gradually feel less and less natural.

At Physio Body and Sole, we look at the bigger picture. We work with you to understand what’s underneath your pain, reduce the strain on your body, and help you move freely with less pain and less effort.

Why your pain may not be where the problem started

A sore shoulder can become neck tension. A stiff ankle can change the way you walk. A lower back flare-up can start from years of protective movement elsewhere.

This is why we don’t just chase symptoms – we look for the tangle underneath them.

Our approach starts by identifying how your body has adapted over time, and the often multiple causes behind it. From there, we work together on finding the thread – the key pattern keeping the cycle going — so we can treat what actually needs to change, not just where it hurts.

This is how lasting change happens: not by masking symptoms, but by untangling what’s driving them.

Your “Body Untangled” TM

Treat old injuries, so the new ones can heal.

Stage 1: The Tangle
Stage 2: Untangling Together
Stage 3: Breakthrough
Stage 4: Optimising

Stage 1: The Tangle

Your body holds on to old injuries. The knots remain, and your body learns to move around them in different ways. These old injuries don’t simply “unwind” themselves – they become part of a tangle.

When something hurts, your body unconsciously protects that area, creating tension and shifting movement elsewhere. At first, this protection is helpful. But problems arise when it lasts longer than a few months.

What started as one issue can become another – and over a lifetime of these patterns repeating, the tangle can grow into something much larger.

Stage 2: Finding the Thread - then untangling together

Every body has more than one tangle. Together, we work on finding the thread – the key pattern that, when treated, unlocks the rest.

We look at how your body has changed over time, and the often multiple causes behind it. Drawing on decades of clinical experience, movement assessment, hands-on treatment, and strong pattern recognition, we identify how your body compensates and what it needs to move better.

Stage 3: The Breakthrough

Your body starts to move with less effort and more ease.

As tension settles and movement improves, you’ll notice you can do more, with greater confidence and fewer flare-ups. This is where things begin to feel different — not just temporarily better, but changed. A change that stays.

Stage 4: Optimising

We help you build a more sustainable way of moving and living.

The goal isn’t perfection. It’s a body that works more efficiently, feels more balanced, and is less likely to fall back into old patterns of tension. Regular care and the right support help maintain that progress — and our results speak for themselves.

How we support your progress

No two bodies need the exact same mix of support. Depending on what is going on, your care may include:

1:1 Physiotherapy
Hands-on treatment, movement assessment, neuromuscular retraining, and a tailored plan based on your body and your goals.

Tailored Exercises
Simple, targeted exercises to help your body build better patterns, improve stability, and support lasting change.

Yoga Therapy and Classes
Mindful movement can help calm the nervous system, improve body awareness, and support strength, mobility, and recovery.

Further Investigation When Needed

If something needs a closer look, we will guide you on the next step so your care stays clear and appropriate.

What to expect when you work with us

We start by listening.

Your appointment is about more than where it hurts today. We look at your symptoms, movement habits, injury history, posture, lifestyle, and the patterns your body may have built over time.

From there, we create a treatment plan that is realistic, tailored, and designed to help you move forward with confidence.

You can expect:

– a thorough assessment
– a clear explanation of what we are seeing
– hands-on treatment where appropriate
– practical next steps
– a plan built around your body, your pace, and your goals
